What are these numbers you ask?  They represent Maryland's record from 1987 -2000 (the year before Ralph arrived).  The Terps went 55-98-2 in 14 seasons (.359). In the 10 years since Friedgen took over, the Terps finished 74-49 (.601).

As these numbers clearly prove, Ralph Friedgen brought the Terrapin football program back from the abyss.  He saved the football program.

Now, perhaps it can be argued that the game has passed the Fridge by.  Maybe, he's delegated too much to his assistants.  Maybe, the Terps can't reach the upper echelon of the conference under him.  Maybe all of these things are true.

One thing, however, is certain.  Ralph Friedgen deserved better than this.  He's arguably the best coach to ever roam the sidelines at Byrd (apologies to Bear Bryant.  Your 1 year at Maryland doesn't count).

If the Fridge is indeed ousted in this fashion, it is a sad day for the University.  Regardless of whether we land a big name coach (please, Mike Leach!); sacking an alum, a savior, and current ACC Coach of the Year like this is a disgrace.
