Terps v Iona Thread

11/20/2011 8:03:47 AM The Terps face Iona in a decisive tilt that will determine if Puerto Rico was kind to Maryland.  The Terps do not do well in early season Tournaments.  In the waning years of Gary Williams tenure; the Terps routinely lost 2 of the 3 games.  In the dawn of the Turgeon era, a vs Iona is all that stands in the way of a 2-1 trip.

It won't be easy.  Iona start a formidable three guard set that features former University of Arizona starter Momo Jones.  Jones is a great player, but he has not been the star thus far in San Juan.  Point Guard, Scott Machado recording 15 assists Western Michigan and Kyle Smith knocked down 7 threes.

To win the Terps will need to play excellent perimeter defense and crash the glass.  56% free throw shooting won't get it done and it goes without saying that Stoglin, Faust, and Mosley will need to continue their hot perimeter shooting.

Our Terps are clearly a work in progress but I'm not counting them despite the odds being against them (Iona is listed as a 6 point favorite).  Coming home with only one loss would be a near dream scenario for Maryland. With only two more difficult contests (Notre Dame and Illinois) between now and the ACC season; the Terps could be in great shape when they get back to full strength.
