Terrell Stoglin Leaves Maryland

It's a bombshell, and seemingly out of leftfield; but it's true.  Terrell Stoglin is leaving the University of Maryland after two seasons.  Apparently, he never bought into Turgeon's system and the coach's view for their future together.

The result is that Stoglin has been encouraged to leave the program.  It's shocking, but Mark Turgeon has a vision and that apparently doesn't include a shoot-first guard with an uncanny knack for finding the bottom of the basket.

Where does that leave the Terps? To put in simply, very young but very talented.  Once the incoming freshman join the squad, the Terps will have the most talent we've seen in years.  What they'll be lacking is a proven scorer who's not afraid to take the big shot in crunch time.  I'd be lying if I thought that Nick Faust was ready to step in and assume that role right away.  He's not, despite the fact that he is clearly the most talented returning player on the roster.

the Terps were a sexy pick to land in the Top 25 by a few prognosticators.  Now?  Who knows?  The Terps still need a reliable point guard (I'm not sure Pe'shon can get it done) and now they need to find 20ppg from the incoming class.

I trust Mark Turgeon.  The guy was born with a basketball in his hand; but this turn of events lowers my expectations for next season and that is an alarming reality.

Update: Now we're hearing that dual one-year suspensions for both Mychal Parker and Terrell Stoglin prompted their departures.  I have no word on what either did to warrant the suspension other than "violating the student athlete code of conduct".  That could mean anything but the story is developing and clearly there is more to it than what the initial reports are saying

Update II:  Word is that Terrell Stoglin failed three drug tests.  I'm not about to preach because lord knows that smoking weed is a relatively normal activity for college sophomores.  However, college sophomores that harbor dreams of playing professional sports need to hold themselves to a higher standard.  This is really hard to believe.  The program just can't catch a break.

Terps Trounce FSU; UNC Now Means Something

The Terps played a great game. Granted the last 7 minutes looked ugly; but they were able to extend the lead and FSU is a great defensive team.  It was the Terps best effort of the season. Maryland finally has an RPI 50 win temporarily.  I say that because FSU is teetering on the edge (ranked #50 at tipoff) and will likely drop out to [...] Read More »

Terps Squander Stoglin's Mastery

For all intents and purposes, the season is now over.  NIT here we come.  Adrian Bowie, Cliff Tucker, and Sean Mosley have gotten worse as the season has progressed.  They have been terrible in this last stretch of games. Despite their dreadful performances; the Terps were in this game to the end thanks to the dazzling play of Te [...] Read More »

Play The Freshman

The Terps have pretty much run out of chances this year.  The upperclassmen (Mosley included) have failed to elevate this team to victory during various crucial opportunities throughout the season.  As far as I'm concerned, their time is up. If the Terps are to find a way back into the season; it will need to come from the freshmen [...] Read More »

Hello Terrell Stoglin

It appears that the Terps and Gary Williams to pull a recruit out of nowhere.  Say hello to Terrell Stoglin for Arizona.  Here's what I dug up:EvaluationJune, 2008: Terrell is a shooting point guard. He is a lefty that is better at scoring than creating for others. He has nice strength and can be an explosive scorer. He has range to 20 feet. He de [...] Read More »
