Maryland vs Georgia Tech

The calculus could not be simpler.  Win and the quest for an NCAA berth continues.  Lose and the dream of an at-large berth is over.

If the team can't seem to find their focus based on the above, then forget the season anyway.  Winning on the road is hard no matter where it is, but Maryland faces two bottom of the conference teams this week (GT + Wake).

Two road wins will help the RPI tremendously.  Couple those with a win against UNC and the Terps would have 3 road ACC wins (VT + GT + Wake) and 3 wins vs RPI Top 25 teams (UNC, NC ST, and Duke).  The at-large case for Maryland becomes exponentially greater if the above scenario comes to fruition.

Lest we get too excited, it's important to note that EVEN IF it unfolds as noted above, Maryland's at-large hopes could still reside on the outcome of the season finale in Charlottesville against UVA. MD and UVA may be battling for the last ACC at-large spot and a UVA sweep could swing the pendulum to them.

Of course, none of this matters if Maryland can't win tonight.  The game starts at 8pm ET.

Go Terps!

Terps Visit Georgia Tech

The Terps travel to the worst team in the ACC this afternoon with a chance to get to .500 in the conference.  It's been a hard road for Turgeon and the Terps.  There have been injuries, suspensions, and a non-existent student body.  Yet, they've persevered.   The most encouraging sign to me is that the Terps played a [...] Read More »

Terps Host Georgia Tech To Gain Leg Up In Topsy Turvy ACC

The ACC this year is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.  No one can figure it out.  UNC lost to FSU today by 33 points.  33 points!  Who cares if it was in Tallahassee?  Sure, the Seminoles were preseason #3 in the conference but no one expected that. Georgia Tech dominated NC State on the road this week.&n [...] Read More »

Maryland Comeback Falls Short; Lose 21-16 To GT

The Terps played valiantly in the second half despite losing Andrew Gonnella for the season with a compound leg fracture.  Edsall benched Danny O'Brien at the start of the second half and backup CJ Brown led the comeback.  Brown is a dynamic runner who demonstrated the ability to gain the edge and get downfield.  Unfortunatel [...] Read More »

Greivis, Gary, and Georgia Tech

I'm back.  I've spent the last 4 days in Phoenix, AZ (where it rained and didn't get above 60 degrees) at my company's National Sales Conference.  Needless to say, I had no time to do any actual work, let alone write a blog post.During my hiatus, both Greivis and Gary won the honors they deserved. POY and COY are appropriate accolades for two men w [...] Read More »

Georgia Tech Afterglow

It's been more than 24 hours since the Miracle at Comcast and I still don't know what to make of it. Personally, it's the only buzzer beater that I have ever witnessed in person.  I was there with the same guys who were with me when Drew Nicholas hit the game winner in the NCAA Tournament 7 years ago (we were in Vegas for that).  Since we see each [...] Read More »

Turtle Soup Is At Comcast Center For The Gameday Thread

Gregg and I will be making our annual pilgrimage to College Park tomorrow to watch the Terps take on the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets.  Tech has an RPI in the 20s , so a win would represent Maryland's best this season (on paper). The Terps are cruising.  So far this week, they've dismantled Virginia at home and followed that up by sleeping walking thr [...] Read More »

Must Win Part IV - Georgia Tech Thread

I feel like this is the third or fourth "must win" game so far this year.  With each "must" win that turned into a loss; the Terps somehow have at least kept their hopes alive for an NCAA berth.Let's be honest; the Terps are on the outside looking in; and will need to play out of character to get themselves in the hunt.  Working in their favor are [...] Read More »
