Play The Freshman

2/14/2011 7:44:16 PM The Terps have pretty much run out of chances this year.  The upperclassmen (Mosley included) have failed to elevate this team to victory during various crucial opportunities throughout the season.  As far as I'm concerned, their time is up.

If the Terps are to find a way back into the season; it will need to come from the freshmen.  Both Howard and Stoglin have shown brilliant flashes throughout the season.  There is a qualitative argument to made for the freshman.  They look the part don't they?  They seem to play with more composure than their older counterparts.  What's more, I can recall big shots that both Stoglin and Howard have hit this year.  I cannot say the same for either Bowie or Mosley.

Clearly, the frosh pass "the look" test.  How do the numbers stack up?  Let's take a look.

Together, the duo are averaging 14.6ppg, 6.2apg, 44 3PT FGs, with 3.7tpg (turnovers).  Compare that to Bowie and Mosley:  17.2ppg, 5.1apg, 31 3PT FGs, with 3.9tpg.

Even more damning is the fact that Stoglin and Howard have achieved those statistics while averaging a combined 12 less minutes played per game than Bowie and Mosley.

The evidence is definitive.  The freshman are better in virtually every category.  Not only are Stoglin and Howard the future of the program; they also give the team the best opportunity to win THIS season.

Bowie and Mosley need to come off the bench.  If Gary won't make the switch, then he's blinded by his loyalty.
