Maryland Terps Make Their First Sweet 16 -- In Baseball

6/2/2014 8:19:50 AM It's hard to believe but the Maryland Terrapins baseball team is on a roll. Up until about 3 years ago, baseball at Maryland was basically a joke.  Historically, Shipley Field only existed as a roadblock for freshman in the Ellicott and Denton quads from getting to class.  Now, baseball is the biggest sensation on campus.

Thanks to an impressive run in the ACC Tournament and an even more remarkable performance in South Carolina Regional in the NCAA Tournament, the Terps are poised to make their first College World Series in school history.  All that stands in the way is best of three series in next weekend's Super Regional against UVA in Charlottesville.

UVA is a baseball powerhouse but then again so was South Carolina.  These Terps  are up for whatever comes their way.  A spot in Omaha where the final 8 teams play still seems like dreamland but it's actually within reach.

The Super Regional will decided next weekend.
