Maryland Opens ACC At NC State

1/8/2012 8:08:13 AM The Terps and Wolfpack square off in the final game of the ACC's opening weekend.  Thus far, it was a weekend filled with surprises.  Clemson upended FSU by 20.  Wake squeaked by Virginia Tech while GT and Miami gave Duke and Virginia all they could handle.

Before yesterday's game, the conventional wisdom had Clemson, GT, and Wake at the bottom of the conference with FSU and VT competing for the 4th spot and likely one of the last conference at large bids.

Now? Who knows?  The conference is wide open.  Even Duke looks vulnerable.  Maryland will have their chances.  The Terps can play with all of these teams.

The big question is can the Terps put it all together and play for 40 minutes? Tonight would be a great time to start.  A win on the road in the opener would send the Terps off on a high as they get ready to host Wake and GT in the coming week. A win and the RPI improves dramatically and vaults the Terps into the discussion.

It won't be easy.  NC State is a strong rebounding team and have already held their own against quality opponents this year. CJ Leslie will give our bigs all they can handle.

The Terps will need to cut down on the TOs, work it inside to Len, and stick the open J.  That's always the offensive recipe, but today, the Terps can't afford any errors.

The Terps haven't been blown out since Puerto Rico and I think we will see the Terps in this one to the end.  Can they execute down the stretch?  These "too close for comfort" non-conference games have proven that the Terps can play their best when it matters most.  Now, it's time do it on the big stage.

Go Terps!

Quick post script:  Our win against Notre Dame keeps looking better and better.  ND now has wins against Pitt and #10 Louisville.  That could help us big time come March.
