Maryland Falls Short in Miami

11/6/2010 7:53:50 PM The Terps almost pulled it off.  Maryland had the lead in the final minute; ultimately could not hold on.  Miami connected on a 35 yard pass with 45 seconds left and that was that.
There is no such thing as a moral victory; but you have to be encouraged that Maryland went down to Miami and went toe to toe with The "U".  Granted, Miami put up 500 yards against the Terps with a freshman quarterback; but the team hung in there until the very end.

The Terps are able to compete largely because they don't make mistakes (they are in the Top 10 in FBS for fewest turnovers) and they force the other team into making mistakes.

However, our unimaginative offense and lame play calling is killing the Terps.  Franklin's decision to run the ball three times and ultimately punt led to Miami's winning drive.  It's pathetic.  No one wants to win playing not to lose.  The players don't want it.  The fans don't want it.  Yet, that is what Franklin gives us week in and week out.

Fortunately, all is not lost.  Our final three opponents, UVA, NCST, and FSU all lost on Saturday.  UVA lost to Duke.  The Terps need to go into Charlottesville next Saturday and get win number 7.  There are no excuses.  If they lose, the Military Bowl is our future.  A win, and we can dream about an ACC Championship game.

Those final two home games will be brutal; but the Terps will have a puncher's chance.  They must get past UVA.
