Maryland Crushes Wake; Space Commits to FSU

10/30/2010 6:50:57 PM As the great Ron Burgandy once said, "that escalated quickly".  The Terps scored 45 straight points turning a 10-7 lead into a 55-7 lead.  It's the third largest margin of victory in Terps history.

Granted, Wake Forest is clearly an ACC bottom feeder; but only a good team can blow out a bad team like this.  Clearly, the Terps have begun to gel over the last few weeks and the results on the field prove it.

Danny O'Brien is a legitimate ACC quarterback.  That's something the Terps have not had in a loooong time-- and he's a redshirt freshman.  That's phenomenal news for the program as he will mature into a true leader next year and beyond.

As for the rest of this year, there are "green shoots" of true optimism to be found.  Not only are the Terps dominating the bad teams (Wake) and winning on the road (BC); but the rest of the ACC is a mess.  Miami lost to lowly UVA today and Clemson lost to BC.  If UVA can beat the Hurricanes; don't we have a chance next week?  Two months ago (hell, two weeks ago) that would have been crazy talk; but now, anything can happen.

I've always felt that 8 wins was the absolute ceiling for this team; but a win next week and our expectations will need to be revised upward.  A victory in South Florida would turn the Terrapins into legitimate contenders to make it to the ACC Championship Game.  There is no use getting ahead of ourselves; but it feels great to be a part of the conversation.

Space commits to FSU

In other news, Antwan Space committed to Florida State today.  That's two Terp prospects (Greg Lewis and Space) off the board in as many days.  With all signs pointing to an Adejhi Baru commitment to UNC; the Terps don't have many options left.

I think the Terps are one big man away from a great 2011 class and I'm worried that there aren't many top targets left.
