Justin Anderson Verbally Commits To UVA

5/26/2011 7:36:31 AM The news is of no surprise to those that have been following the situation; but Justin Anderson has decided to take his talents to Charlottesville. I wish him the best of luck.  UVA's program and tradition pales in comparison to that of Maryland; but Anderson clearly wanted to play for Gary Williams and Rob Ehsan.  Since that is no longer an option; you'd have thought that Turgeon and his staff would have been given the opportunity to state their case; but never got the chance.

It's a disappointment for sure, but the Terps must on -- and they have.  The current top targets for 2012 look like this:

Frontcourt

- Shaquille Cleare.  (6'10, C) He's reached demigod status amongst Terp fans at this point.  He's the big body we desperately covet.
- Jordan Goodman. (6'9" PF) He just de-committed from Rutgers and Maryland is in the mix for his services.  He's the athletic shot-blocker type as opposed to the wide-body, back-to-the-basket style of Shaq Cleare.  Basically, he fills a front court need that was heretofore unaddressed.  Goodman also has a jumper.
- Mitch McGary. (6'10" PF) I don't know much about his game; but Rivals ranks him as the 5th best prospect in the 2012.  He's going to visit College Park. Wow.  When was the last time a top 5 player visited Maryland?

Backcourt

- Seth Allen (6'2" PG)  Allen is locked and loaded.  We've seen the YouTube videos.  He can shoot, jump out of the gym, and he sees the floor well.  He's played at a cupcake school, so it will be interesting to see what he does this summer on the AAU circuit and how that affects his stock.
- Arnaud Adala-Moto (6'5" SG/SF)  Moto is the most likely "replacement" now that Anderson is off the board.  Moto's stock has been rising of late and we should hear more about his recruitment in the coming days.
- Amile Jefferson (6'7" SF)  Jefferson has crazy high major interest and the Terps are late to the game.  He's long and super-athletic and could be an upgrade from Justin Anderson.  Let's see how far the new coaching staff can get with this kid.
- Jerami Grant (6'7" SF) Similar to Jefferson, the big schools are all over Grant. The difference with Grant is that he is a DeMatha kid who is from Hyattsville.  We've got a chance; but it is hard to lure kids to College Park when schools like Kansas are interested.  Expect the Terps to at best secure the services of one of the Adala-Moto, Jefferson, and Grant trio.
- Isiaih Zierden (6'1" G)  Zierden is a sharpshooter from Minnesota.  He's been lightly written about and doesn't seem to have high major schools beating down his door; but if the kid can shoot the lights out, he'll contribute at Maryland.
