Greivis Vasquez on Wooden Award Watch List

8/19/2009 8:46:09 PM The venerable Wooden Award announced their preseason watch list today.  It is nice to see that GV is getting some recognition heading into his senior season.  His value to the Terps this year is incalculable.  Perhaps no other Terps team since Joe Smith's sophomore year have depended so much on one man.

Vasquez will indeed carry a heavy burden and if the Terps can finish at or near the top of the conference; then he merits consideration for the postseason awards.

The way I see it, Vasquez will have more support on the floor in terms of scoring options and that should translate into better shot selection for GV.  Better shot selection is key to Vasquez erasing many of the remaining questions that surround his game. With more options to get the ball to; expect Greivis to improve his assists per game, shooting percentage, and 3PT percentage. If that happens, it will be a special season in College Park and Vasquez will get much of the credit.

It is a good year for the Terps to have experienced players.  Many of our ACC brethren will be restocking the shelves.  Let's hope that we can capitalize on the opportunity and set up the program for when we really start bringing in the big recruits.
