Dalonte Hill Is Joining Turgeon's Staff

5/17/2011 9:50:05 AM It's official!  Uber-Assistant Dalonte Hill is leaving his post at Kansas State University to join Coach Turgeon's staff at MD.  Here's a link to the Post article confirming the story:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/recruiting-insider/post/u-md-basketball-dalonte-hill-to-join-mark-turgeons-staff/2011/05/16/AFbQwp5G_blog.html

Hill joins Scott Spinelli and Bino Ranson on the Terps staff.  The Hill hire represents a major sea-change at Maryland. Virtually overnight, the Terps will go from a program with frosty ties to the AAU community to one with someone of the deepest AAU ties in the nation.  Hill's resume is impressive.  He's brought Kansas State an impressive stable of McDonald's All-Americans (Michael Beasley and Wally Judge to name two), and let's face it; Manhattan KS is a backwater.  Imagine what Hill can do in College Park.  Hill used to run AAU powerhouse, DC Assault.  DCA's alumni are all over the NBA.  College Park is located in the same county (Prince Georges) as DCA.  There should be a steady pipeline from DCA to MD within the year.

That said, there is a twinge or reticence on my part.  We are jumping into the AAU pool hook, line, and sinker.  It's not the cleanest of pools.  I have faith that even though the waters may get muddied; Maryland will uphold the standard of ethics that Gary Williams has instituted over the last 22 seasons.  It will be a different approach, but an approach that should lead to happier times in College Park.

Congrats to Coach Turgeon for luring such a top-level assistant to MD.
