Maryland Falls Short in Miami

The Terps almost pulled it off.  Maryland had the lead in the final minute; ultimately could not hold on.  Miami connected on a 35 yard pass with 45 seconds left and that was that.

There is no such thing as a moral victory; but you have to be encouraged that Maryland went down to Miami and went toe to toe with The "U".  Granted, Miami put up 500 yards against the Terps with a freshman quarterback; but the team hung in there until the very end.

The Terps are able to compete largely because they don't make mistakes (they are in the Top 10 in FBS for fewest turnovers) and they force the other team into making mistakes.

However, our unimaginative offense and lame play calling is killing the Terps.  Franklin's decision to run the ball three times and ultimately punt led to Miami's winning drive.  It's pathetic.  No one wants to win playing not to lose.  The players don't want it.  The fans don't want it.  Yet, that is what Franklin gives us week in and week out.

Fortunately, all is not lost.  Our final three opponents, UVA, NCST, and FSU all lost on Saturday.  UVA lost to Duke.  The Terps need to go into Charlottesville next Saturday and get win number 7.  There are no excuses.  If they lose, the Military Bowl is our future.  A win, and we can dream about an ACC Championship game.

Those final two home games will be brutal; but the Terps will have a puncher's chance.  They must get past UVA.

Miami - Maryland Game Thread

The rubber meets the road for the Terps tomorrow.  If the Terps can go down to Miami and beat the Hurricanes; then we can officially start getting excited about an Atlantic Division title.  It will also get the Terps to seven wins which is beyond what most thought were possible.  The Hurricanes will be without Jacory Harris and t [...] Read More »

106 - 58!

OK.  It's only a preseason game.  There's no reason to get carried away.  But still!  The Terps steamrolled Florida Southern.  I know.  Florida Southern is a Division II school.  Last year, the Terps beat DII, Indiana, PA by 20 points. Does this 48 point drubbing mean that we will be twice as good as last year?&nb [...] Read More »

Maryland Crushes Wake; Space Commits to FSU

As the great Ron Burgandy once said, "that escalated quickly".  The Terps scored 45 straight points turning a 10-7 lead into a 55-7 lead.  It's the third largest margin of victory in Terps history.  Granted, Wake Forest is clearly an ACC bottom feeder; but only a good team can blow out a bad team like this.  Clear [...] Read More »

Maryland - Wake Forest Game Thread

Tomorrow is homecoming and the Terps are favored to beat a beleaguered Wake squad to move to 6-2.  If the oddsmakers are right; the Terps will head into their final four games having already secured bowl eligibility. Unfortunately, oddsmakers don't play the games. While it's true that Wake sits at 2-5; a closer look at their schedule gives [...] Read More »

Nick Faust Commits To Maryland

It's hard to accurately express what a big deal it is for Maryland to land a commitment from a Top 25 player like Faust.  His skills, as evidenced by this sizzle reel, haven't been seen in College Park in a long time.  He reminds me of Rudy Gay; only with a better jumper.  Based on straight rankings; he's the best Terp recruit [...] Read More »

Basketball Preview Part I - Rating The Newcomers

The Terps are heading into the season with six new faces.  Their level of success will determine the Terps season.  What can we expect from these guys? For my money, you can break the newcomers into three categories: Anything is a plus We are talking about Berand Wejs, and Haukur Palsson.  Granted, both players possess some intri [...] Read More »

Best Day For Terps Football In 2 Years

Somehow, Maryland is 5-2 despite being out gained in all four of their FBS victories (by the way, when can we go back to calling it Division I?).  That's not exactly an awe-inspiring statistic; but a win is a win.  How have the Terps done it?  It's simple. Maryland is winning the turnover battle and coming up with big defe [...] Read More »

Maryland v Boston College Game Thread

The Terps are 4-2, the Eagles are 2-4.  Should be an easy win, right.  Wrong.  If we played BC's schedule, we'd be 2-4 too. BC plays good defense.  We have a freshman QB.  It could be a long day.  Regardless, it represents one of Maryland's best opportunities to pull off a conference win.  At 5-2, the Terps [...] Read More »
