Lax Championship Thread

The Terps Men's Lacrosse Team can erase 36 years of heartbreak and missed opportunities by beating UVA in Baltimore this afternoon.

Maryland dominated UVA in Charlottesville earlier this year.  At one point, the Terps reeled of something like 7-straight goals en route to a 12-7 win.  Now, UVA appears to be a different team.  They are scoring at will and have not been tested in the NCAA Tournament except for the first round where they escaped from a frisky Bucknell team (I used to work with a couple of former Bucknell Lacrosse players so that one hurt).

There should be 60,000+ fans at M&T Bank Stadium today.  At least 50,000 will be pulling for the Terps.  That matters.

The Terps have 17 seniors on the squad.  They won the ACC title and yet the NCAA left them un-seeded.  That's classic Maryland.  It's right out of Gary Williams' playbook.  Disrespected and forgotten, the Terps have fought their way to the Championship game anyway.

It will come down to which team is able to force their style onto the other team.  UVA likes to score.  The Terps have been about ball control and defense.  Well, you know what they say: defense wins Championships.

...

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this morning the resignation of Jim Tressel.  I can't tell you how glad I am that, apparently, there are consequences for coaches who break the rules.  Now, if only the NCAA would implore their member schools to do the same on the basketball court.  I can think of a couple coaches who should suffer the same fate as Tressel.

Lax Final Four Thread

Despite Wheels' statements to the contrary; I like the Men's Lacrosse team.  I don't write about them because I never played the sport and don't know enough to speak intelligently about it.  What's more, they've never given me a reason to believe they could win it all.  Until last weekend, that is. The Men's Lacrosse team have bee [...] Read More »

Justin Anderson Verbally Commits To UVA

The news is of no surprise to those that have been following the situation; but Justin Anderson has decided to take his talents to Charlottesville. I wish him the best of luck.  UVA's program and tradition pales in comparison to that of Maryland; but Anderson clearly wanted to play for Gary Williams and Rob Ehsan.  Since that is no longer [...] Read More »

The Justin Anderson Potential De-Commit (Don't Panic) Thread

Where's there's smoke there's fire and things are burning in Charlottesville right now.  Unfortunately, folks from DBR on down are confirming reports that Justin Anderson may switch his commitment to Virginia. This is a double kick in the groin.  Not only would Maryland lose its first 5-star recruit in years; but we'd lose it to our ri [...] Read More »

Sterling Gibbs Is Texas Bound

Sterling Gibbs will not be enrolling at the University of Maryland this Fall. He made it official on his Twitter feed. Gibbs is a great kid and only a crazy Terp fan would hold this decision against him. Mark Turgeon got the Point Guard he wanted on Saturday when Seth Allen committed to the Terp Class of 2012.  Sterling Gibbs found a great [...] Read More »

Gary Williams retired less than 10 days ago, yet new coach, Mark Turgeon has already landed his first recruit. 6'2" PG Seth Allen committed to the Terps this afternoon after visiting the campus.  Allen is from Fredericksburg, VA and had been recruited by Turgeon while he was still at A&M.  Allen is nowhere to be found on any [...] Read More »

Et Tu Nick Faust?

The off season has reached Shakespearean proportions. Too much drama and heartache.  Don't get me wrong, the Terps navigated the departure of a Legend and landed a fantastic coach whom we will all love for years to come.  But... The Terps now have no 2011 recruits signed.  Nick Faust made it official this afternoon when he joined [...] Read More »

Are Gibbs and Bruenig Gone Or Just In Limbo?

That's the million dollar question isn't it?  Everyone wants to know if yesterday's formal requests by both players to be let out of their LOIs means that they are officially out of the picture.  I'd venture to say that at this point, no one knows; not even the players themselves. The decision to stay or go will likely come down to a [...] Read More »
