NIT Semifinals - Terps v Iowa

Perhaps this is a bad question to ask on the eve of the NIT Semifinals; but I'm wondering what Terp fans prefer the most?  A first round loss in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT Championship?

For me, it's all about getting to the Dance; but the merits of a deep run in the NIT are clear:  freshman and sophomores get a taste of the postseason against decent competition.  It should help the team next year as they attempt to break through the malaise of mediocrity that has descended upon College Park.

This has been a bit of weird run in the NIT.  Some freshman have played well (Allen, Layman).  While others have seemingly disappeared (Chuck and Shaq).  Dez Wells has stepped up to be the leader we knew he could be, while Alex Len has been dominant.  Len's play is now a red herring.  He's going pro in the offseason so any production he gives us now, will need to be replaced.

The Terps still need a reliable point guard and one has to hope that Turgeon can pull a rabbit out of the hat like he did last summer with Wells.  I don't trust a pu pu platter of Howard, Allen, and freshman Roddy Peters.

Iowa is emerging.  They've had a great run through NIT and will be ready to play.  The Terps need to guard the perimeter and pound it inside (what else is new?).

I expect a close game.

NIT Quarterfinals: Maryland vs Alabama

Tonight's game provides a valuable test for the Terps.  Mark Turgeon definitely wants this. I can guarantee you that.  After the season ending debacle at Virginia; the young Terps desperately need to have the experience of a road win as we look toward next season. Neutral sites are one thing, but winning  on the road is the diffe [...] Read More »

Not In Tournament

We all knew that we would be here didn't we.  Ever since the BC loss, it was apparent that the Terps wouldn't do enough to get on the right side of the bubble.   There were plenty of frustrations along the way, but the Terps played their best basketball at the end of the season. That's encouraging. Overall, things are looking up. Ye [...] Read More »

ACCT - Semifinal Thread

That was an epic win.  Maryland hadn't beaten Duke in the ACC Tournament since the Finals in 2004 aka, "the Gilchrist Tournament".  Dez Wells seems to be channeling him at the moment. Whoever we play, the Terps have sowed the seeds for future success with today's win.  A loss in the semis would be disappointing; but we s [...] Read More »

ACCT Maryland vs Duke

Duke always seems to stand in the way don't they?  This Terps team is incredibly flawed.  We've chronicled it ad nauseum on this site.  Still, we'll show up tonight at 7pm hoping against hope that the Terps can turn in a performance in Greensboro that we haven't seen in a decade. This would be a fantastic time to put it together w [...] Read More »

ACCT - Wake vs Maryland

Welcome to irrelevance. This game is on no one's radar.  The winner will simply be fodder for the Ryan Kelly - Duke juggernaut.  I assume it will be us.  The Terps can beat a poor Wake squad any day.  I will not be looking forward to the Duke game.  They will crush us. It will be painful. [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Virginia, The Quest For Mediocrity

The headline says it all I think.  The Terps have limped through the ACC Season and are surely poised to be left out of the NCAA yet again. The only April excitement for us is whether or not five-star recruit Dwayne Morgan will choose the Terps on April 5th. It's incredibly frustrating for fans but I think the program is on the way up. This [...] Read More »

Maryland vs UNC

The Terps have their latest "must-win" game of the season tonight. It will be in the midst of a snowstorm.  If the crowd shows up, we should give UNC all they can handle. The last game against Wake was promising.  The team played a style that was reminiscent of the early season form.  Pe'shon Howard finally played well.& [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Wake

Terps are officially playing out the string.  Not even an unlikely 3-game winning streak to the end the season can save their NCAA hopes now. Wake sucks but somehow are tough at home.  I've given up hoping this team will figure it out.  Win or lose today, nothing changes about this season. [...] Read More »
