ACC/B1G Challenge: Maryland vs #5 Ohio State

The ACC got off to an excellent start last night in the annual clash with the B1G.  Surely, Terp fans now feel conflicted given that we will officially be switching sides next year.  Please allow me to dispose you of any inclination you have to root for the B1G this year.  The Terps are in the ACC and we need the ACC to be rated as high as possible so that we have more opportunities to play our way into the NCAA Tournament.  We can root all we want for the B1G next year.  For now, we should be glad any time an ACC team prevails (except for Duke of course).

Speaking of Duke, did anyone seen the mockery that the officials turned in during the first 10 minutes of the game last night?  Three HORRENDOUS and INEXCUSABLE calls went again against Michigan.
1. Duke was credited with a 3-point shot after the shot clock expired
2. Duke was awarded possession after Marshall Plumlee threw the ball off his own foot out of bounds.
3. Duke drew a defensive foul on Michigan because as the Michigan player pivoted the back of his head hit a Duke player who was hand-checking him like crazy.

Who's going to miss their annual visit Cameron Indoor?  Anyone?  It just mystifies me how the NCAA can continue to allow officials to destroy the integrity of the game each time Duke plays a home game.

On to the task at hand:

Maryland has been in search for a signature win for two years.  Tonight is certainly an opportunity to obtain that elusive win.  We've witnessed Turgeon's teams come tantalizingly close (see UConn, UK last year, et.al.) but the Terps have either fallen short or panicked with a lead and lost it at the end.

Winning on the road at Ohio State is a tall task.  The Buckeyes may not lose there all year.  Maryland is capable.  The Terps have proven that they can play with good teams.  What they need is to string together 40 minutes of quality basketball.  That means good decision making (I'm looking at you Nick Faust and Dez Wells), timely shooting (Layman and Smot), rebounding fundamentals (Cleare and Chuck), and taking care of the rock (Roddy).

In the end, I'd be hard pressed to tell you that I think we'll win.  I think we'll make it a game and if things fall our way late, we may pull out a miracle.

Gameday: Maryland vs NC State

This game should be called "Your rivals have a bigger rivals than you so we just stuck the to of you together" Game or the "Leftover Bowl".  Nothing is more depressing on "Rivalry Saturday" than realizing that you have no real rival.  It reinforces the mediocrity and irrelevance.  Oh well.  A new fu [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Morgan State

Don't you just hate games like this?  Maryland is coming off an encouraging yet tiring weekend of games at the Paradise Jam and has a big game coming up next week against top 10 Ohio State. Yet, tonight there is a tune-up game against Morgan State to contend with. This feels like the dreaded "trap game" to me.  Morgan State s [...] Read More »

Dalonte Hill Resigns; Juan Dixon Joins Staff; Dustin Clark Promoted

In a surprise move (for me), Dalonte Hill resigned today effective immediately.  His DUIs and and related struggles have been well publicized but I really thought he'd have another chance. Not the case.  I don't know much about Dustin Clark other than that he has been filling in on the recruiting side while Hill was out with a leave o [...] Read More »

Paradise Jam Final: Maryland vs Providence

Quite simply, this a huge game for Maryland.  Providence is a good team and Maryland needs a win against a quality team. I think the Terps need to focus on shot selection (as always) and rebounding. I'm rushing to get out of work so I will try to add some commentary later. [...] Read More »

Paradise Jam: Maryland vs. Northern Iowa

Here we go.  The Terps have a chance to salvage a bit from the weekend after yesterday's Tour de Force of ineptitude from Randy Edsall. Are they up to the task?  Unfortunately, the signs point to no. Offensively, the Terps looked lost in the first half against Marist, one of the worst teams in the entire NCAA.  Turgeon continue [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs BC

Today we find out if Maryland figured out all the problems last week against Virginia Tech or if they will descend back into ineptitude. BC is capable and will be ready to play.  I expect a tough contest. A win and it will be hard to argue that Randy Edsall hasn't had a successful season.  It would be a miraculous turnaround from th [...] Read More »

Paradise Jam: Terps vs Marist

Today is the first day of the rest season.  Let's see if the Terps can bounce back from that HORRIFIC loss at home to Oregon State. First things first.  It's time for Turgeon to make some tough choices. 1.  Roddy Peters must start at PG.  Dez Wells is not a PG at this level.  Plain and simple.  Peters is raw but [...] Read More »

Terps Are A Mess; Lose To Lowly Oregon State

What a debacle. Nick Faust is just gawd awful.  He needs to be benched never to return.  He can't defend.  He's selfish. He does not know what to do with the ball.  He should just start doing the opposite of what he thinks is the right thing to do.  It will serve him better than his instincts. If only Faust were the o [...] Read More »
