5-Star Diamond Stone Commits To Maryland

3/27/2015 7:57:45 PM It's the news that Terp fans have been waiting for. Diamond Stone, the 6'10" 250lb 5-star center tweeted to the world this evening that he was taking his talents to College Park MD next year.  Unbelievable!

I need verification, but this may be the first time in program history that Maryland has netted McDonald's All-Americans in back-to-back seasons.  It's also likely Maryland's top ranked recruit since Albert King committed to Lefty.

Stone's commitment is just a massive win for Maryland. It virtually guarantees that Maryland will only build on last year's success.  It squashes those absurd rumors about Turgeon leaving for Alabama and it raises the stakes for next year dramatically.

Quite simply, Maryland will be loaded. The Terps will start three 5-star players: Trimble, Stone, and Carter.  Add swingman Jake Layman and the shooting guard duo of Nickens and Wiley and you have an elite team. JuCo transfer Jaylen Brantley will back up Trimble. In the frontcourt, you'll have Dodd, Ceko, and Bender to spell Stone and Carter. It's an embarrassment of riches.

Diamond Stone is probably the biggest recruit to come to Maryland since Albert King.  He may even be bigger than that. I couldn't tell you where Albert King was ranked but Stone is #6 according to Yahoo and #7 according to ESPN. Rarified air for Maryland

The expectations will be sky high next year as Maryland will be bigger and tougher and more talented than this year's squad. Dare I say it but Maryland will be Big Ten favorites and likely ranked in the top 10 to start the season.

Quite simply, this is the best possible news that Maryland could have received this offseason. Enjoy it Terp fans.
